I wrote this song during the devastating flood of Hurricane Harvey in Houston, TX and surrounding areas. I grew up in Houston and most of my family is there. I watched in horror as the hurricane sat over the city for days and dumped 50" inches of water. My mother who was battling cancer at the time was in the care of my sister there and I had just left them as the first drops began to fall.
No one knew it would be that bad. I watched the weather reports - the constant flood and tornado warnings for days. I paced, feeling helpless. Then I remembered I was a songwriter and got to work.
I am releasing this song again to address the horrific tragedy of the Texas Hill Country flooding. As a kid I went to summer camp not far from Camp Mystic for three summers. I have so many incredible memories from that time. I lived in Austin after Houston for 20+ years. The hill country was a camping destination for us. I floated the Guadalupe River many times and camped along its bank. I swam in it every morning at summer camp. Some of my first profound spiritual experiences happened along the trails, campgrounds and rivers of the Hill Country. It feels as though part of it will always run through my veins.
